HOW TO FIND „LOST RELATIVES“

I was well over 50 when I first sat in front of a computer. Being a technical person I did not find it extremly difficult to deal with this „phenomenon“,but still there was a kind of fear…

Like most beginners I started with „surfing“ . One day I came across an interesting page dealing with genealogy.I knew that there was a distant relative of us who emigrated to the USA in the times of the Austro- Hungarian Monarchy.I started searching , it took me long weeks but in the end I was successful. I manged to find a person called „Kenneth“ who was very likely to be on of the grand-grand son of our emigrated relative.I wrote him letter saying that we might be relatives. I did not have to wait long for his answer. He was more than happy to learn that he had finally found one of his relatives in the country where his grandparents were from.He decided to visit us and in a few months time we really met.
You can imagine how excited we were, we planned everything very carefully, we wanted to show him round the most beautiful places of our country like the High Tatras, the Spiš Castle,Levoča , Bratislava and of course Košice. He was very impressed by our plans but he asked us in a very polite way if there was any chance of visiting the birthplace of his grand grandparents first. It was a request which was difficult to refuse. So on the following day we set out to a small village at the foot of High Tatras which is something like 80 km from Košice. We passed the gorgeos Spiš Castle , one of the oldes ones in Middle Europe, but he did not show any special interest in it,he was in a hurry to see the place where his grand grandparets were from.. In less than 15 minutes we finally arrived there. A small village ,like many others one would say, but it was something very special for Kenneth, he was as high as a kite. He took hundreds of pictures to take home and show it to his family. But what he was most fascinated by was a wagon pulled by horses. I even asked the skinner to take him for a round.
As he said later this was one of the most beautiful days in his life.
